Abstract
This chapter looks at the problem of crossing fibers in diffusion MRI of the brain. Diffusion tensor imaging only gives us a single fiber direction, but fibers within single image voxels can adopt complex configurations. In particular, fi ber crossings cause problems in diffusion tensor imaging that can result in failure of tractography or misleading indices of tissue integrity. Here we will study a variety of more sophisticated techniques that provide more information about the configuration of fibers within image voxels and resolve the orientations of crossing fibers.
