Abstract
The use of phase coherence time series and LANDSAT-TM in analyzing the scatterer behavior on Mt.Etna volcano is discussed. The seasonal variation of coherence is determined using the coherence maps of tandem IfSAR images and the permanent scatterers. The long phase coherence time series are useful for identifying the lava and forest region due to wind effects, vegetation growth and atmospheric effects. The results show that the permanent coherence of IfSAR is an important factor for recognizing forest and lava flows in steeper regions. Consistently strong cogerence originates from the small-scale structure of bare regions.
