The series pairs a critic with an appropriate commentator who locates the critic's work in contemporary debates. Essays by Pollock. Co-Editing, Introduction, Editorial commentary, by Florence. In Florence's essays 'Looking Back to the Future' and 'Post/Modernism and the Fourth Dimension', Pollock's work is assessed in the context of social, political and ideological developments since the 1970s. Her critique of Modernism, Art History and Criticism are interpreted as constituting a model that moves beyonds the conflicts and contradictions that place in opposition discourses of the subject and social relations. The intellectual and social conditions that inform contemporary issues in criticism, art history and feminism are illuminated.
