Abstract

Numerical results for the ground states of the hydrogen and helium atoms confirm the validity of the algebraic Schrödinger-Riccati equation. A quartic equation may be appropriate for points in the electron configuration space corresponding to electron positions close to the nucleus but a higher degree will be needed for the outer regions. The Schrödinger-Riccati equation is appropriate for implementation in parallel-computing facilities and its practical applicability will be enhanced by the availability of high-speed computers.
