Abstract

A number of standard project management texts have appeared in recent years in the form of Bodies of Knowledge (BoKs), best practices and ISO standards. The literature on the comparison of the respective texts is, however, scarce and atypical. Moreover, the absence of a formal Body of Knowledge widely used in Greek construction projects, makes the comparison very complex. Project management Bodies of Knowledge are codified single references consisting of "generally recognized management practices" represented by different component processes. Greek construction processes are described by a multiplicity of Laws, issued since 1984. The legislative framework is complex, difficult to trace, time dependent and expands over thousands of pages. The absence of a codified guide makes the knowledge and the execution of the included processes difficult. However, no study comparing the Greek construction professional practices, regarding practitioners' opinion, to any widely accepted professional project management framework has been published yet. This research aims to present a comparison of major BoKs with the Greek project management practice. Key Words: project management, construction industry, PMBOK, APM BoK, Knowledge management.
