Abstract

The performance of an oscillating pressure unit specially designed for use in injection moulding of ceramics is described. The selection of materials and the construction of the modified oscillator were described in Part A. By incorporating wear resistant piston and cylinder inserts the life of the unit was extended sufficiently to allow the production of sound mouldings. However, the abrasive wear conditions in the value were so severe that metallic inserts provided a maximum life of two working days. Initial trials with ceramic inserts were unsuccessful but for production runs the use for ceramic inserts may become unavoidable. © 1988.
