The annuloplasty prosthesis comprises a ring-shaped member having substantially rectangular overall dimensions of the transverse cross-section with a ratio between height and width of between 0.2 and 10 and at least one through opening orientated substantially transversely with respect to the general plane of the ring-shaped member. This ring-shaped member may be obtained from a flat sheet through the removal of material or cutting, maintaining the continuity of the annular member during all stages of processing.

|Additional information:||This patent application is part of family of inventions in the area of devices for annuloplasty repair (extended in Burriesci, G. and Bergamasco, G. Annuloplasty prosthesis with an auxetic structure. European Patent application n. EP 05425926.2, filed on 28th December 2005). The inventions define novel semirigid prosthetic rings, that join the advantages of rigid and flexible repair rings, by supporting leaflets remodelling and allowing at the same time the annular physiological deformations during cardiac cycle. Dr Burriesci has followed the development of one of these inventions from the design to the qualification and validation.
