Abstract

This work presents the mathematical model and the simulation of a two phases flash separator, equipment that conforms a process of natural gas liquefaction. The separator's main function is to carry the propane to balance conditions such that both its cooling properties as liquid and saturated steam are used. The separator's mathematical model consists of mass and energy balance equations in non-stationary state, as well as the expressions for steam and liquid density and the expressions for the steam and liquid enthalpy, deduced from the adequate correlations. These equations were simulated in the SIMULINK toolbox of MATLAB program, using the real operation conditions of the plant, from which the validation of the proposed model was made. The main objective of this work is to generate a reliable and complete mathematical model of the flash separator that will serve for the implementation of special control techniques.
