Abstract

A general linear modelling framework in which input-output and economic base relations are treated separately from spatial interaction is set up. The framework is then explored in terms of Lowry-like models and their generalisation as input-output structures and multi-activity models. It is shown how such analysis can be used to aid empirical model estimation in terms of assessing the importance of inputs on outputs and in efficient model calibration. It is shown how nonlinear structures can be cast back into a linear mould, thus enabling useful techniques of empirical testing to be employed.-from Author
