Abstract

Outlines a framework that contains the main submodels of an urban and regional system and sketches the planning uses of such a system. The basic submodels are reviewed and recent advances in spatial interaction models reported. Discusses the retail and residential location models, and associated supply side models, the stability of systems, and the variety of spatial forms. Briefly compares the spatial-interaction system with other approaches. Planning problems in relation to urban models are reviewed, and a number of recommendations on model design are made.-from Author
