Social vulnerability to disasters.
CRC Press: Boca Raton, FL.
The chapter addresses the integration of disability into all phases of emergency management programs and the promising practices that have emerged over the last few decades as well as some of the challenges that remain. In a review that includes consideration of existing statistical relationships, legal and policy mandates, gaps and challenges, as well as best practices from both a U.S. based and international perspective, the authors offer a snapshot of the current state of disability and disaster. As these issues gain more attention internationally, our goal is that this chapter will contribute to a growing body of knowledge in this field. A list of resources is listed at the end of the chapter.
