Abstract

The calibration of absolute vertical-incidence backscatter coefficient, sigma-0 and in-flight instrument verification of RA-2 altimeter were discussed. The calibration activities performed during the RA-2 Commissioning Phase and the consequence monitoring activities during the routine phase were also described. The use of RA-2 altimeter for the measurement of sea-level and ice-sheet elevation required an absolute reference in the time series. The in-flight verification activity was performed with the objective of verifying the main capabilities and operations of the instrument.
