Abstract

Optical fibre transmission is an attractive technology for point-to-point transmission of audio and video signals. This paper reports the design, construction and performance of a square wave frequency modulation (SWFM) technique for transmission of video and voice channels over 1 km of fibre. The results indicate that SWFM system is bandwidth efficient and low-cost alternative compared to the more complex and expensive digital system requiring far greater bandwidth. © 1993 IEEE
