The various options available for retrofitting windows are described and their performance simulated in a domestic situation using the thermal simulation model SUNCODE. Predicted energy savings are presented for each treatment and certain combinations of treatments. The performance of each treatment in terms of solar gain versus heat loss, ability to reduce air infiltration and other characteristics is illustrated. Conclusions are drawn as to the most appropriate applications for the various window treatments. (Author abstract. )
