Abstract

The crystallographic and magnetic properties of U1-xLaxPt compounds has been studied by means of X-ray, electrical resistivity and magnetization measurements. A clear ferromagnetic order is observed for x less than or equal to 0.2 although the magnetization and resistivity reflect the existence of magnetic interactions at low temperatures in the other compounds. The negative thermal coefficient of the electrical resistivity observed in UPt, continuously evolves to a positive value with the increasing of La concentration. From the relative change of volume, we propose a 5f(2)electronic configuration for the U ions.
