Abstract

This paper describes experiments performed in the UK Coastal Research Facility making direct measurements of the instantaneous bed shear stress under combined wave and current motion on a smooth boundary. Mean current velocity profiles were measured to obtain time mean bed shear stresses. A comparison of the performances of two instruments for direct bed shear stress measurement, the UCL shear cell and a two component hot-film probe is also presented.
