TIME-DOMAIN COMPUTER MODELLING OF OPTO-AVALANCHE DEVICES.

Opto-avalanche devices, such as avalanche photodiodes and the optically controlled IMPATT diode, are of interest for use in high-rate optical communication and advanced radar systems. However, the theoretical analysis of their performance presents formidable difficulties, particularly where transient information is required. This paper describes an alternative approach, the use of time-domain computer modelling techniques to predict the terminal characteristics of opto-avalanche devices.
