Abstract

This paper contains the specification of the issues involved in the development of a model of the effects of changes in transport costs on the choices of home and job by individuals. Consideration of the inadequacies of other approaches is followed by a description of the methods of simulating the relevant decision processes of choosing homes and jobs, changing economic status, the numbers of cars owned and mode of travel, plus inter-personal household dynamics, on the basis of the contemporaneous personal characteristics and available opportunities.
